Dr. Mikdad: Conspiracy against Syria & Reforms amid Unrest

DAMASCUS- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, on Tuesday briefed a Slovak academic and media delegation visiting Syria on the conspiracy against the country by dominating colonialist powers in the world in addition to some Arab sides with the aim of undermining Syria.

Dr. Mikdad underlined that Syria is confronting a real war, in which media is playing an important role through provocation and fact falsification, pointing out that tens of Arab and foreign TV channels are working against Syria to change the public opinion in it.



He pointed out that some arrested gunmen confessed to perpetrating acts of killing to accuse security and army members of the crimes.

He reviewed the reform package implemented in Syria in the framework of the comprehensive reform program led by President Bashar al-Assad.

Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister added that the national dialogue and the comprehensive reform are the only way to overcome the crisis, stressing that Syria is ready for the national dialogue which was rejected by the opposition abroad.

For his part, head of the Slovak delegation expressed solidarity with Syria in the face of the conspiracy, affirming that the misleading media aims at distorting the public opinion in Europe through depicting the pro-marches filling the Syrian squares as anti-government protests.

He added that Syria will overcome the critical stage thanks to its national unity and its rich civilization.

The Slovak delegation had also met Rector of Damascus University Mohammad Omar Mardini and Patriarch Ignatius IV Hazim of Antioch and All The East of the Roman Orthodox.

For their part, the visiting Slovaks stressed they will convey what they saw to their country "to put it face to face to expose the false news broadcast by the media about the events in Syria."

They said they felt the great co-existence among the Syrian people, Muslims and Christians, which is different from what is being promoted by media.

Also in Damascus and in his meeting with Shahnaz Fakoush, member of the Regional Leadership of al-Baath Party, Head of the Communist Party of Slovakia, Jozef Hrdlička, said that the situation in Syria is stable, highlighting the democratic reformative approach of the country.

Hrdlicka addressed the Syrian people saying that the dying international capitalist system is trying to export its crisis through going back to its former imperialistic policies by means of destabilizing the peoples.

"You the Syrians are not fighting for your sovereignty only, but also for boosting love and consolidating the international law…You are not alone, we are your friends and we are with you," added Hrdlicka.

Hrdlicka said that most of the Slovak people are fully aware of the unprecedented media pumping against Syria, adding that this conspiracy hatched by the US and Europe is a form of the return of old colonialism in an new shape.

On Tuesday, the judicial sub-committee for the Local Council Elections in Damascus on Tuesday evening announced the results of the Provincial Council elections.

Advisor Nazir Kheirallah, head of the sub-committee, said the electoral process went according the committee's plan in an atmosphere of transparency marked by honesty and democracy.

"The wide popular participation in the voting reflected the citizens' desire in effective participation in the reform process," added Kheirallah, highlighting the big turnout of youth, whether candidates and voters, in the elections.

Meanwhile, Judge m'an Sarai-Eddin, head of the judicial sub-committee in charge of supervising the elections in the southern governorate of Sweida, announced the results, noting that the total number of voters reached 98,000, making a percentage of 80 %.

He said that the elections were properly held under a transparent atmosphere, stressing that no violations were reported.

Syria state-run media outlets also reported “With flowers and laurel wreathes, seventeen army and security forces martyrs on Tuesday were escorted from Tishreen and Homs Military Hospitals to their final resting places in their cities and villages.”

It also added “Hundreds of Syrian citizens gathered at al-Hijaz and the Governorate squares in Damascus on Tuesday rejecting the Arab League resolutions and the policy of sanctions adopted by the western countries against Syria.”

Also on Tuesday, Syria’s media and press said “Syrian authorities on Tuesday clashed with an armed terrorist groups in Idleb province, northern Syria. An official source said that the armed terrorist groups attacked public and private properties, terrorized the residents of Idleb and the surrounding areas.”

“The authorities managed to kill and injure several terrorists and confiscate their weapons.” according to SANA report about Tuesday clashes.
