Iran's Mapna blames Syrian Opposition for Abduction of Iranian Engineers

(Dp-news)

TEHRAN- Manager of the Syrian branch of Iran's Mapna Engineering Co. Morteza Ganjizadeh took Free Syrian Army responsible for the recent abduction of the Iranian engineers.

The contractor of Jandar Electrical Power Plant in Syria, where a group of Iranian engineers were working before they were abducted last month, said that the Iranian nationals have been abducted by the Free Syrian Army.

Speaking to Iranian Fares News Agency (FNA) in Damascus, Ganjizadeh said that Al Farouq brigades affiliated to the Free Syrian Army has been the main group behind abduction plots since the beginning of the crisis.

He pointed to a photo published in a French magazine which shows a defected Syrian soldier behind four of the seven abducted engineers, and said the photo proves that the FSA has kidnapped the engineers.
A look at this picture and a passport photo which had been taken a day before their abduction reveals that the picture released by the French magazine is authentic and has been taken just a bit after their abduction.

Earlier on Wednesday and in a press conference, Syrian Electricity Minister Imad Khamis condemned the abduction of Iranian engineers in Syria, and refuted the claims about any link between them and Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Minister Khamis expressed hope for release from captivity of Iranian kidnapped technicians of Jandar Power Station in central Syria as soon as possible.
"We are awfully sorry for the kidnapping of these Iranian friends who were here to assist the Syrian nation, and we are cooperating round the clock with Syrian security officials who are trying hard for their release." Syrian Electricity minister said.

Answering a question that was asked by a reporter whether the kidnapped Iranian technicians are members of the IRGC; The Syrian minister replied "They are affiliated to Mapna Company, with whose members I have been acquainted for many years, and I know that they are not members of any military organ, but merely technicians who were assisting us in constructing new power generators in our country."
"Unfortunately there is a huge propagation onslaught going on against Syria today and such claims, too, are made by antagonist media outlets." he claimed.

The Syrian electricity minister added "We consider these people as members of our own families and are trying our best to return them to the warm embrace of their families as soon as possible, while accepting full responsibility for securing the safety of the entire Iranian and other foreign citizens who are our partners in Syria."
He also emphasized "The construction work at Jandar Electrical Power Plant continues and the projects with the Iranian technicians and those with other nationalities continue in accordance with their respective schedules, as efforts are focused on putting them to use right on time."

Seven Iranian engineers and technicians who were working at Jandar Electrical Power Plant were kidnapped late December, 2011 by armed bandits who are fighting against the Syrian central government.
Earlier reports said that the Syrian terrorists who abducted the Iranian engineers last month were seeking to link their inmates with the IRGC in a bid to blame Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah for unrests in Syria.

The Free Syrian Army is the main opposition army group in Syria and is composed of defected Syrian armed forces.
