TEHRAN- Some 15-hundred participants from 73 countries are taking part in the two-day international conference entitled "Islamic Awakening and Youth" in Tehran, Iran.

The Conference Secretary General Ali Akbar Velayati, Islamic Jihad Secretary General Ramadan Abdullah, Iraqi former Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari and Leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim attended the meeting.

"Why did they created the Zionist regime? To gain control over oil, as well as the popular and revolutionary uprisings in the Middle East,” said President Ahmadinejad in his opening speech at the conference.

“It is clear that this was a historical scheme,” the Iranian president added.

Elsewhere, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the participants, cautioning against plots by arrogant powers to create divisions and conflicts in the region.

At the opening session of the conference in Tehran, President Mahmoud Ahmadimejad of Iran said the West and those who lack experience in democracy seek to undermine Syria in an attempt to protect the Zionist entity through sowing sedition and division in the region.

President Ahmadinejad said "the democracy will not come by the American and NATO weapons and armors. They do not even have democracy in their countries."

The Iranian President added that the conference aimed at confronting the colonialist interventions and impact on establishing new systems, in addition to facing injustice and unilateral policies of the international Zionism.

1200 youths from Iran and other countries of the world are participating in the two-day conference which aims at standing up against foreign interferences and presenting a pattern for Islamic democracy.

The role of the youth in the wave of the Islamic Awakening which has swept through the Middle East and North Africa since early 2011 will be discussed at the conference.

1000 young individuals from 73 countries have joined the meeting.

Reviving Islamic goals and values on the basis of Islam, restoring the national and Islamic dignity of Muslim countries, creating a new Islamic civilization on the basis of religion and rationality, the exchange of experience between freedom-seeking movements, presenting Islamic democracy as a substitute for the Western type, and strengthening self-confidence among Muslims are the main objectives to be discussed at the conference.

Islamic Awakening and Youth Conference is an international NGO whose decisions have nothing to do with the governments.

On September 17, 2011, more than 700 Muslim scholars and prominent figures from 80 countries participated in the first International Conference on Islamic Awakening in Tehran. Last year conference discussed and analyzed the history and basic tenets of the Islamic Awakening as well as figures that have played a role in such movements.

Since the start of 2011, the region has witnessed a growing wave of popular protests resulted from the people's growing awareness and vigilance.
Tunisia saw the overthrow of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in a popular revolution in January, which was soon followed by a revolution which toppled Hosni Mubarak in Egypt in February.
Libya, Yemen, Syria, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia have since been the scene of protests against their totalitarian regimes, which have resorted to brutal crackdown on demonstrations to silence their critics.
