China: Western Interference will Bring Chaos and Unrest

(DP-News - agencies)

BEIJING- As International pressure mounted on the Syrian government to open up the country to humanitarian aid; the official Xinhua News Agency said in a commentary that China's position on Syria was balanced and that "most of the Arab countries have begun to realize that the United States and Europe are hiding a dagger behind a smile."

"In other words, while they appear to be acting out of humanitarian concern, they are actually harboring hegemonistic ambitions," it said.

In a commentary titled "Political Settlement is Best Way out of Crisis in Syria", Xinhua said Saturday that more Arab countries are gradually becoming aware that foreign interference by western powers will not bring about democracy, freedom or justice, rather it will create chaos, unrest and suffering in the Middle East.

Chinese official agency added that China's stance on Syria is firm as it always hopes that the issue can be solved through political dialogue within the framework of the Arab League.

Xinhua also pointed out that China has repeatedly stressed that the international community should respect the sovereignty, stability and unity of Syria and the independent decision of the Syrian people in addition to the outcome of political dialogue among various sides in Syria.

Xinhua noted that china supports the calls for ending violence immediately in Syria, protecting civilians, offering humanitarian aid to Syria and rejecting military foreign intervention.

The United States and Europe are "harboring hegemonistic ambitions" in Syria, China's state news agency said Saturday, a day after Beijing was condemned at an international conference held to find a way to halt the Syrian regime's nearly year-old suppression of an anti-government uprising.

At the Friends of Syria meeting in Tunisia, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton blasted Russia and China as "despicable" for vetoing U.N. Security Council resolutions backing Arab League plans aimed at ending the conflict and condemning the crackdown by President Bashar Assad's government.

"They are clearly not on the side of the Syrian people," Clinton said.

Both China and Russia boycotted the Friends of Syria conference, which Xinhua said ended with a "broad consensus" on avoiding a militarization of the conflict in Syria.

The conference urged Assad to end the violence immediately and allow humanitarian aid into areas hit by his regime's crackdown. It also proposed tighter sanctions on the country and Assad's inner circle.

Press reports indicated Saturday that calls and faxes to China's Foreign Ministry on Saturday asking for comment on Clinton's charges were not immediately answered.

Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at several news conferences this week that China wanted more information on the goals and mechanisms of the conference before it would attend. Xinhua quoted him as saying China was a friend of the Syrian people, and that "any action taken by the international community should help to cease tensions, boost political dialogues, resolve differences and maintain peace and stability in the Middle East."

The U.N. estimated in January that 5,400 people have died in the conflict. Hundreds more have died since, with activists saying the death toll is more than 7,300.

clear mind            2/27/2012 11:49:56 AM
So many are relating the matter to Tibet, but perhaps US should allow Hawaii to be indepedent and so many pacific nations to have full souverignty? Syria matter is serious, so don't make it worse. US and Europe are broke, they only got money to throw some bombs there and leave, they are NOT committed to providing aid long term.
What a joke

"Western Interference will Bring Chaos and Unrest" - Are you blind, they are killing their own people - but I guess that is OK in China.

Western Imperialism rises again!
zephon            2/27/2012 12:11:15 AM
Sorry so many sheep in the west have been fooled to believe that this is nothing more than an Western expansion of centuries of imperialism. The Chinese have learned these lessons well... from the Opium wars where western war machines and soldiers forced Opium consumption to the prolonged Chinese Civil war where Americans sided with the KMT/Nationalists causing much greater loss of life to the CIA sponsored terrorism in Tibet where the Dalai Lama and his traitorous cult were supplied with weapaons and training by the Americans... At least China has learned from this history... unfortunately the sheep in western nations just continue to drink the Kool-aid. LOL. Chumps.

"What do you expect from and country that kills its own people." Nothing compared to the united states, who kills people in dozens of other people's countries. Maybe the y could set an example by leaving iraq first and by not bombing pakistan with drones. Westernised hypocrites.
China is right.

America once vettoed against the world on Iraq for no tangible reasons. They waisted lives and money for ego only. Why are they blaiming Russia and China? I hope Arabs will be wise.
Influence of the US & UN
Ron            2/26/2012 10:59:11 PM
The UN and the US went into Libya, Libya is lawless today with innocents dying every day but you don't hear it in main stream news. Oh, not to mention Afghanistan and Iraq. Imagine Russian and China arming the KKK in the US and telling the US not to restrain this group aggressive towards the state? China and Russia will be the ultimate target of the West master plan. Look who is controlling the US Federal Reserve, put the power back to the people and they won’t have the money &power to push through with their greedy agendas.

This goes back a long long time in CIA Covert OPS arranging for Coup.
Chinese hypocrisy
Nick            2/26/2012 10:07:29 PM
There already IS chaos and unrest in Syria! Chinese politicians are dictators who murder their own people and hold Tibet hostage, its no surprise they mouth moronic platitudes to hide their own crimes. When is the world going to wake up to the threat that China poses?
Daniel            2/26/2012 9:40:06 PM
@Snoopy Every country kills its own people.... and how many countries is the US occupying now that don't want us there?
don't interfere
China 's chess            2/26/2012 9:30:07 PM
China throws a rock in to water and let see what happen watching a fight to see who will win and then we will put bets on.If China want to a supper power it must take responsibility to the world's community not just talk on the side line , actions show their duties any body can talk but only some can do.
Of course a repressive government supports another
Jeff            2/26/2012 8:45:42 PM
Of course a repressive government like China and Russia would appose an uprising of people. Remember Tiananmen Square? Even our US government leaders spin and tries to push people around but not by lobbing bombs and snipers indiscriminately on their own innocent people. If China and Russia mean well they need to convince Syria to cease fire as their are better and more civilized ways to handle this.
dale            2/26/2012 8:21:33 PM
China wants syria's oil and so does Russia, they won't help the Syrian people who are dying every day from bombs, snipers.

Came across this mindless biased excuse for journalism , Why dont you go and report this to the parents of the dead children who's bodies are filling up the streets ! Shame on you and how dare you try and then mask your own guilt by pointing the blame at the west ! , Stop trying to say its east vs west - When its simply good against evil and china chose to side with a dictator who is fast approaching hitler proportions - Shame on you all
Sitting on your hands
Andrew            2/26/2012 5:46:24 PM
Gunships being used in cities, childeren being shot by snipers, free press being targeted. This civil war needs a no fly zone and aid corridors immediately. Sorry but Chinas veto stank in favour of corrupt Syrian leadership.
A little late
Steve            2/26/2012 5:44:37 PM
Agreed Jeff

Snoopy Jnr            2/26/2012 10:03:10 AM
