President al-Assad offered Condolences for the Passing of Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria

(Dp-news - Sana) DAMASCUS- Empowered by President Bashar al-Assad, Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam visited Tuesday the Egyptian Embassy in Damascus to offer condolences over the passing of Pope Shenouda III, Patriarch of All Africa on the Holy Apostolic Seat of Saint Mark the Evangelist of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria.

Minister Azzam wrote an entry in the record of condolences, voicing sincerest commiserations to the Egyptian people on behalf of President al-Assad and the Syrian people.

Earlier on Sunday, President Bashar al-Assad sent a cable of condolences to Head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces of Egypt, Field Marshal Mohammad Hussein Tantawi, over the death of Pope Shenouda III, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Episcopate.

In the cable, President al-Assad expressed on behalf of the Syrian people and on his own behalf heartfelt condolences to Field Marshal Tantawi and the Egyptian people over the death of Pope Shenouda.
President al-Assad considered Pope Shenouda as an example of religious men who were distinguished for their openness and wisdom.

Pope Shenouda III passed away on March 17th at the age of 89.
Pope Shenouda was known for his firm stances on the Palestinian Cause which rejected normalization with the Zionist entity and judization of Jerusalem, and his refusal to visit Israel.

He was 88. His birthday is August 3, 1923 and he went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2012
