Syria: Deadly Blasts at main Cities on Saturday

( DP-News )

Syria- Violence persisted on Saturday in Syria despite a UN monitored ceasefire, leaving nine people dead and several others injured. Explosions hit Syria in further signs that rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad’s regime are shifting tactics towards home-made explosives.

A car explosion hit the capital suburb of Daf al-Shouk on Saturday night, leaving two dead and five people injured. There was no word on casualties by Syrian Official.

Damascus and Aleppo have witnessed many suicide bombings recently.

Syria state-run news agency SANA said that three citizens, including a child, were martyred and 21 other were injured on Saturday in a booby-trapped car blast in front of a car wash in al-Sukari neighborhood in Aleppo province.

In turn, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Humans Rights, which monitors the 14-month-old re-volt, said the Aleppo blast wrecked a car wash in Tal al-Zarazeer. The Observatory had put the death toll at five, according to press reports abroad.

Press reports added that a member of the rebel Free Syrian Army claimed responsibility for the bombing, telling Reuters in Beirut that the car wash was used by members of a pro-regime militia.

“We placed a bomb inside a car,” Ali al-Halabi said, naming the car wash owner and accusing him of raping a woman in front of her husband. “I went to the area afterwards and saw seven bodies and many wounded.”

Aleppo has been spared the worst of a conflict that has turned some cities into battle zones, but on Thursday security forces and students wielding knives attacked anti-regime protesters at the university, killing four and detaining 200.

In Damascus, two bombs exploded on central al-Thawra Street, destroying nine cars. There was no word on casualties by Syrian official and local media. Journalists saw mangled mini buses and a smashed yellow taxi being dragged away from the area later.

“We heard a big explosion,” A resident of the nearby Souq Sarouja neighborhood told The Associated Press (AP).

“The security forces have blocked off the area now.” He added.

SANA also reported Saturday many clashes, law enforcement casualties and seized-weapons along with 26 citizens who were misled and involved in the recent events in the country and whose hands are clear of the Syrian blood have handed themselves and their weapons in to the authorities in Aleppo and Damascus Countryside.

They were released to go back to normal life after pledging not to take up arms again or take part in vandalizing public and private properties, according to SANA report.

SANA added that 265 arrested men who were involved in the recent events in the country but whose hands are clear of the Syrian blood were released on Saturday.

Press reports said Saturday that Syria`s bombings dealt another blow to a crumbling UN-backed truce. Fifty out of a planned total of 300 United Nations observers are now in Syria to monitor the ceasefire declared on April 12th, but their presence has not halted the violence.
