Two car bombs in Reyhanli on Syria-Turkey border

(Dp-news)

Agencies- Four people were killed on Saturday in a series of explosions that ripped through a small town in Reyhanli in Turkey near the volatile border with Syria, the Turkish Interior Minister was quoted as saying by TRT television.

Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Guler said explosions in Reyhanli on Syria border caused by two car bombs. Guler said four people had been killed and another 18 wounded, according to an initial toll.

Turkey's Dogan news agency said four blasts had occurred near the municipal offices of Reyhanli, in the southern Turkish province of Hatay, and that some people had been wounded.

Four blasts were reported near the town hall in Reyhanli, just a few kilometers from the main border crossing into Syria, the NTV news channel said, adding that the cause was not yet known.

Several ambulances rushed to the site of the explosion to tend to the victims, CNN-Turk television said, adding that the town hall had suffered major damage.

Reyhanli, a town of about 60,000 people, lies near the Cilvegozu crossing opposite Syria's Bab al-Hawa border post.

The Syrian-Turkish border area has witnessed a number of attacks as the conflict in Syria spills over into Turkey, a one-time ally of President Bashar al-Assad and now one of its harshest critics.

In February, a car bomb attack at Cilvegozu which Turkey blamed on Syrian intelligence agents killed 17 people and wounded another 30.
