DAMASCUS –People's Assembly, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), held on Monday a workshop on early marriage and its effects on family and society at Umayah Hotel, Damascus.
MP Suad Bakour said the workshop aims at supporting the national priorities included in the 10th 5-year plan concerning issues of population, reproductive health, empowering woman, achieving justice and increasing awareness.
For his part, Assistant Representative of the United Nations Fund for Population in Syria Omar Ballan said that the Fund supports Syria in all the activities concerning empowering woman and providing the appropriate services in the field of reproductive health.
Ballan added that Syria has always paid great attention to woman's issues, which reflects the increasing commitment towards these issues.
The workshop comes in the framework of the Seventh Regional Cooperation Program between Syria and the UNFPA for 2007-2012.
