1st Lebanese Cinema and Television Festival

BEIRUT- The event, started Thursday and ends Saturday, is organized by the Syndicate of Filmmakers in Lebanon and was attended by a large number of Arab and Lebanese artists and television and cinema union members from Syria, Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Canada and Ukraine.

The first-ever Lebanese Cinema and Television Festival opened Thursday night at the UNESCO Palace, under the patronage of the Culture Ministry. The festival features 19 original productions from the Arab world.

The program includes more than 19 short and feature-length films from the Arab world, including Lebanon. Among the seven works screened on the opening night were “Raqssat al-Ghurab” (The Dance of the Crow), by Syria’s Alaa al-Shaar, “Khurouj” (Exit) by Saudi director Tawfiq al-Zaydi and “Finak al-Yam” (Where Are You Today) by Moroccan director Idriss al-Shuweiki.



Among the Lebanese productions in the festival are “Al-Harb al-Amniya” (The Security War), a documentary produced by Al-Jazeera and directed by Bilal Khreiss, “Sammouni Chirine” (They Named Me Chirine) by director Rowan Qassem, “Ahlieh bi Mhalieh” by George Tarabay, a joint Lebanese-Ukranian production “Mikhayel Naameh,” “South Africa” by director Youss Darkass and “Daass and Jarbouaa” by Labtoul Merhi.

Other Arab productions include “Al-Manssiyoun” (The Forgotten Ones) by Moroccan director Hassan bin Jaloun and “Al-Qarar” (The Decision) by Syrian director Faisal bin Marjad.

Saturday’s slate of films at UNESCO include “Shahnat Dimagh” (A Brain Charge) by Syrian director Ahmad Hassan, “Al-Adou al-Muqatil” (The Fighting Enemy) by director Ahmad Farroukh, and “Al-Mawt Sharqan” (Death in the East) by Iraqi director Bahaa al-Fatimi.

The organizers will present awards to winning directors during a ceremony Saturday at the Commodore Hotel.
