National Dialogue Sessions kick off in Syrian Provinces

(Dp-news - Sana)

SYRIA- All popular activities and academic and social personalities from all spectrums of the society and political parties, independent, and opposition representatives are participating at the national dialogue sessions which started on Sunday in the provinces of Damascus countryside, Lattakia, Daraa and the universities of Damascus and Tishreen.

The national dialogue sessions focus on three axes that deal with the political, economic and service issues.

Participants in the dialogue sessions at Rida Said center for conferences at Damascus University tackled the economic axis and discussed the future vision for the Syrian economy and the financial and commercial policy.

Headed by professors of economy and political economy, the participants in the sessions also stressed the necessity of finding mechanisms for implementing procedures to combat corruption and reconsider the taxation system.

They called for implementing the principle of equal opportunities and supporting the reform programs and the private and the public sectors.

The participants also called for supporting scientific specialties and higher studies as well as supporting the vocational institutes to meet the demands of the work market.

A number of participants considered that the wrong implementation of some economic policies reflected negatively on the economic and social situation and led to economic and social problems and corruption in various public sectors.

For his part, Professor Akram Hourani stressed the importance of this meeting in exchanging viewpoints on the reform process and the causes which led to it, highlighting the necessity of assessing the previous stage which led to a gap between social classes.

At Sahara Complex in Damascus countryside, participants in the session stressed the necessity of reconsidering the taxation policy of Syria and achieving the principle of equal taxation and combating tax evasion in addition to activating penalties and fines against tax evasion.

For his part, Syrian opposition Nour al-Shawi pointed out that he was surprised to be invited to participate in these dialogue sessions which gave him an impression that there is an intention to achieve a comprehensive participation in the national dialogue sessions.

Damascus Countryside Governor, Zahid Haj Moussa, said dialogue is the way to reach a form of political pluralism in Syria based on democracy and freedom far from foreign interference.

In Lattakia, another dialogue session was dedicated to discuss the political situation and the horizons of the future political process to reach a modern democratic civil state.

In the same framework, head of the Engineers Syndicate in Lattakia, Ammar al-Assad, pointed out that the national dialogue is the only way to get out of this crisis, stressing the importance of equality among all participants in the dialogue.

Dr. Youssef Mahmoud, Dean of the Economy Faculty at Tishreen University, stressed the importance of uniting efforts to launch the desired economic reform.

Nabil Farhat, independent, considered that the national dialogue should first deal with people who were responsible for the crisis, asking the opposition to speak transparently.

He added that the acts of the previous governments are responsible for 50% of the crisis, while the other half is an external conspiracy.

Kamal Shaheen, opposition figure, Head of al-Balad Website, said "We are living in a real crisis because of the repercussions caused by monopolization of power, corruption of law and the judicial authorities and the rising religious extremism and protests in the Arab country".

The participants criticized the political performance of the opposition, which only raise slogans that call for undermining the national unity without any reform project.

Participants called for finding better standards to select qualified managers and employees and put an end to the tax evasion and activating the accountability principle.

Activities of the first session of the national dialogue also started at the Culture House in Daraa Governorate with the participation of more than 200 figures from political parties, independents and opposition.

Participants raised a set of views aiming at finding agreed-by-all working methods to contribute to enhancing the safety and stability of the homeland.

They also stressed the importance of activating and bolstering the political multiplicity and amending the constitution or setting a new one in addition to giving the parties a direct funding from the government.

They also called for setting a timetable for implementing the decrees and laws of the comprehensive reform program and releasing all detainees who are proved innocent from committing sabotage acts and discussing the reasons of the crisis.
